Dear IBPO families,
Back to school is always an exciting time. Uniforms are ready, class schedules are being finalized and new students, teachers and staff are being welcomed into the Woodrow family.
The IB Parent Organization had the pleasure of hosting our annual incoming freshman mixer for parents and students. There were over 200 in attendance at a fun, informative and very hot afternoon event. IB seniors were there to welcome families and help them get registered on the IBPO website and IB sophomores were there to share their wisdom on a successful start to high school life. As always, Dr. Ritchie was with us to calm nerves, answer questions and lead us all into a great year. We were thrilled to have Ms. Jackson, our new Assistant Principal over IB in attendance too; welcome Ms. Jackson!
We also welcome Ms. Rodriquez, our new IB dedicated counselor and several new IB teachers. Thank you all for bringing your skills, commitment and service to the students of Woodrow Wilson High School.
Lastly, I invite you to join the IBPO, along with other organizations at Woodrow. It’s just not the same without you!

IBPO Freshman Class Social
The IB Parent Organization organized meet-and-greet mixer for IB freshmen at White Rock Alehouse on August 11. There were 200 attendees at this annual kick-off event for 9th grade families to get acquainted and meet experienced IB-ers before starting classes. Thank you to our IB Freshman Class Mixer Committee for coordinating this great event!
IB Class News
Freshman (Class of 2023): The freshman are off and running! It has been a great start for our newest IB students. Everyone had a great time at the freshman family social at White Rock Alehouse on August 11th. The next event for the freshman is a breakfast in the library before school on Friday September 20th. Be on the lookout for additional information!
Sophomore (Class of 2022): Sophomores begin their second year of pre-IB classes and will take the PSAT at Woodrow on October 16th. HINT: Students will need a TI Inspire calculator for the PSAT. Look for one now during Back-to-School sales (and buy extra batteries).
Junior (Class of 2021): IB Juniors are returning for a challenging and very full year. With schedules loaded with IB classes, this year they will also begin working on their Extended Essays, planning their CAS projects, and preparing for college SAT/ACT entrance exams. Go, juniors, go!
Senior (Class of 2020): Welcome to senior year! Button your chin-straps! It’s going to be a crazy ride! Remember to keep up with important deadlines this year. First and foremost is the EE. Second draft is due this week for review by the advisors. Final turn-in will be the first week of December. We’ll celebrate with an Ice Cream Sundae Bar! Look for IA deadlines as well. The PTA will be communicating all the wonderful Woodrow activities, like Homecoming, via email and on the website. Make sure you are signed up! Senior year begins the transition for our kiddos to their next chapter. It’s not always easy! Try to be supportive and open with your student. There is a lot of work and pressure this year. No such thing as the Senior Slide in IB! But never fear! It will all work out and this time next year you’ll be settling into the next phase. So, enjoy this time. Hug them close!
Below is the 2019-2020 IBPO Volunteer Committee List. Thank you to all of these parents for taking on these jobs this year!
We have a few open chair spots to fill so if you think you can help us out please let me know. Parent volunteers are also needed to help in the committees listed. Please let us know where you’d like to help! All of our activities are simple but powerful. We want to support our kids, Dr. Ritchie and the program as best we can. If you have any questions about what’s entailed in each committee please contact our IBPO Volunteer Coordinator, Carrie Fisketjon. Thank you for your consideration!
To sign up or questions: contact Carrie Fisketjon, IBPO volunteer coordinator! All volunteers need to be approved through the Voly link each year on the IBPO website.
It’s time to renew your IBPO Membership for the 2019-2020 year!
Please support your child’s exceptional IB Education and consider what contribution you are able to make when choosing your IBPO Membership level. IBPO bridges the gap from parent contributions to enrich Woodrow’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for our students and staff. Your IBPO funds are used to underwrite annual student events (freshman breakfast, sophomore DP luncheon, junior extended essay writing workshops, senior essay celebration, senior send-off), IB staff appreciation and needs, parent informational guest speaker series, freshman summer social and the IBPO website. Without generous contributions from our IBPO members, this program as it is would not be possible.
As a member you will have access to EVERYTHING you need for Woodrow IBPO in one place: important dates and IB events, IB Newsletters from Dr. Ritchie, IBPO Newsletters, member contact directory, volunteer opportunities and signups, membership registration, and convenient click-and-pay Paypal options for membership fees/donations.
